Hope series

These small pieces, which range in size from 10” to 12”, represent a sort of metaphysical aesthetic.  The first few in the series were created for specific people in my life who were in crisis, and so I originally called them my “healing” mosaics.  By incorporating traditional and new age symbols, I wanted to communicate my desire for their worlds to be made right, or healed.    As I worked through each piece, I was drawn to the essence of the symbolism & began combining these natural materials and design elements with an eye to positive results, a proactive approach, Hope.  There is a rich history of faith in the benevolent earth, the power of her essence & the energy she emits.  Each piece in the Hope series evolves around a specific “life concept”, and material and design elements lend themselves to enhancing that concept.

With each piece, I have provided a list of it's elements (materials & design elements), along with the attribute of each element.  As for the latter, my sources are provided below.  The idea that we may improve our emotional and/or physical being by paying attention to the Earth is an ancient concept which has been renewed in "new age" practices.  For some, it falls right in line with deep spirituality; for others, such as those with fundamentalist religious beliefs, the idea is  near blasphemy.  I choose to believe that it is in our power to enhance our circumstances by paying attention to what our Earth has to offer us.

Please email me if you have an interest in any of these works, or if you have any questions.
